Kishau Multipurpose Project

Kishau Dam Project is proposed across River Tons (a tributary of River Yamuna) along the border of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The project in Himachal Pradesh is located in district Sirmour about 50 kms upstream of Dakpathar (The confluence of rivers Yamuna and Tons) and 10 km upstream of existing Ichhari Dam. The project is a multipurpose scheme and will provide drinking water and irrigation benefits to beneficiary states and power to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The project envisages construction of a 236m high “Roller Compacted Concrete” gravity dam (from river bed level) at a place called Samberkhera. A dam toe power house on left bank of River Tons is proposed with an installed capacity of 660 MW. The project is expected to generate 1379 MU power in a 90% dependable year which will be shared by Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on equal sharing basis. Due to assured storage the project will also enhance power generation of the projects located downstream. The enhancement will be of the order of 472 MU and will also be shared by the two states on equal sharing basis. Project will have a live storage of 1324 MCM and shall provide drinking water and irrigation benefits to beneficiary states viz. Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The Project shall also help in controlling flood in River Yamuna. Submergence at FRL 860m is about 1498 hectares in Himachal Pradesh (8 villages, 2092 persons likely to be affected) and about 1452 hectares in Uttarakhand (9 villages, 3406 persons likely to be affected). Total submergence is 2950 hectares. The MoU for formation of JV for construction of Kishau Multipurpose Project was signed between the GoHP and Govt. of Uttarakhand on 20.06.2015. As mandated in the MoU a SPV i.e. Kishau Corporation Limited (KCL) for execution of the Project was incorporated on 16.01.2017 under the Companies Act, 2013.
